Como Secondary School sisters inspired by mum for World’s Greatest Shave

TWO Kensington sisters were inspired by family to cut all their hair for the World’s Greatest Shave at Como Secondary School this month.

A decade ago, Kensington mum-of-two Jane Windeyer shaved her head at Kensington Primary School, where her daughters attended.

Her daughters Holly (16) and Amberly Lynch (14) will shave their heads on March 19 after being inspired by friends and their mum who did the same.

“We’re both shaving it completely off,” Amberly said.

“First we’re cutting our hair in plaits and then we’re donating it.”

Holly’s goal is to raise $1200 and Amberly’s goal is $1400.

The girls are donating their hair to Variety Australia and Locks of Love, which will accept Holly’s coloured hair.

Holly said the money raised for important research would help families during a difficult time.

“We’ve had family members passed, not from leukaemia, but from treatments that can’t be cured,” she said.

Mrs Windeyer said she was gobsmacked but humbled when her daughters told her about their plan.

“You don’t see many teenage girls do something like this,” she said.

“The fact that they don’t care about their loss of hair makes me very proud.”
