Competition raises steaks

Susanne ReillySouthern Gazette

The Kewdale Tavern will join in this year in a bid to knock the Como establishment off its throne.

Australian Hotels Association (WA) chief executive Bradley Woods said sandwich eaters have until April 20 to vote online at www.hospitalitywa.com.

"Now in its eighth year, this popular competition continues to raise the gastronomic quality of WA steak sandwiches," he said.

"Steak sandwiches are an Aussie icon and a highlight of any pub menu. They pull together great ideas, home-style cooking, fresh local produce and beautiful Australian meat."

Following online consumer voting, five metropolitan finalists and five regional finalists (one from each tourism region) will be invited to compete in a live steak sandwich cook-off.

These finalists will be announced on April 23 with the final cook-offs taking place at the AHA's Hospitality Expo on May 19 and 20 at Crown Perth.
