Councillor eyes Swan

The Victoria Park deputy mayor has received pre-|selection as the Australian Labor Party’s candidate for the seat of Swan in the 2013 federal election.

Mr Bissett has lived in Victoria Park for more than 40 years and has served as councillor for 23 years, also volunteering on several boards and committees.

His contributions to council meetings are passionate, humorous and based on his considerable local knowledge and experience.

Mr Bissett wasted little time in firing a few early shots in the political war, last week, describing Tony Abbott and the Coalition as ‘a threat to local families’.

‘The Gillard Labor Government has delivered so many initiatives that are helping families with cost of living challenges, such as the Schoolkids Bonus, the |$4 billion Dental Health Reform package and tax cuts for people earning less than $80,000 a year,’ he said.

‘Labor is also delivering a world-class education and training system ” huge investment and reforms are helping our kids get a great start in life and ensuring Australians develop the skills they need for the jobs of the future.

‘There is so much at stake for our community at the next federal election,’ he said.

Holding the seat of Swan since 2007 is Liberal Party member Steve Irons.
