Diabetes fundraiser kicks into high gear

Staff ReporterSouthern Gazette

This year is the club’s third Jaden Curley Memorial Day, who died aged 31 of hypoglycaemia in December 2010.

Club president Leigh Searle said Jaden’s death was unexpected and ‘shattered’ the football community, which banded together to hold the annual event that raises money for Diabetes WA.

‘We decided then and there that if we could save people’s lives then we’d give something back,’ Mr Searle said.

‘It’s gotten bigger and bigger every year and hopefully this year will be the biggest yet.’

An animal farm and face painting will be available on the day as well as football matches between local teams including the Redcliffe Junior Football Club, with the Belmont Bombers donning purple and green ‘Diabetes WA’ guernseys instead of their usual red and black.

The Jaden Curley Memorial Day will be held at Forster Park in Cloverdale on Saturday, June 29 from 10.30am.
