STUDENTS from a number of schools have banded together to entertain the City of Belmont with their performance At the Bus Stop.

Performing Arts teacher and specialist primary drama co-ordinator Brittany Lomax organised for students in and around the Belmont area to audition and take part in an extra curricular drama workshop.

Now the students from different schools meet every Thursday afternoon after school at the Performing Arts Centre at Belmont City College, rehearsing their scripted performance At the Bus Stop.

“The production is a combined effort of the students improvising given scenarios and themes of weird and wonderful characters at bus stops, and then I’ve integrated those ideas into a full scripted production,” Ms Lomax said.

The production received funds from the City of Belmont through a Memorandum of Understanding with the College.

Funding provided the students with the opportunity to perform as well as professionally designed sets and costumes.

Ms Lomax said the program helped to facilitate a smooth transition for Year 6 students entering Year 7.

“It’s also providing a safe and creative environment for students interested in performing arts and a wonderful tool to integrate new vocabulary and terminology that students would utilise in secondary school,” she said.
