Driver injured after attempted carjacking

A DRIVER has been taken to hospital after a carjacking attempt by two men who allegedly threatened him at knife point yesterday afternoon.

Police said at about 1:55pm, a man parked his car at Nance Park on Nance Street, Kewdale when two men jumped in.

One of them was allegedly armed with a knife.

The two offenders allegedly assaulted the victim and threatened him with the knife.

During the incident the victim reversed his car into bollards a number of times and it became bogged.

Police said the offenders searched the car but left empty-handed after one of the men dropped the keys he had stolen from the car’s ignition.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries.

Cannington Detectives attended the scene and two persons of interest to the investigation were identified as being at a nearby house.

Police arrested the two men as they were leaving the house.

A 42-year-old man from Kewdale has been charged with aggravated armed robbery, aggravated assault occasioning bodily harm and possessing drug paraphernalia.

A 20-year-old man is also facing charges, including aggravated armed robbery, aggravated assault occasioning bodily harm, doing an act causing bodily harm with intent to harm.

Both men were refused bail and are due to appear in the Perth Magistrates’ Court today.
