Aaron CorlettSouthern Gazette

MISSION Australia’s Youth Accommodation and Support Service in East Victoria has had a makeover.

The work was a part of Lendlease’s annual Community Day on September 13 with about 30 employees helping with the upgrade.

The makeover included new airconditioning, new internal doors and painting the walls and ceilings, signage and wall murals to rooms and doors, new taps, vanity and tiles in the bathrooms, and gardening front and back.

Mission Australia state director WA Jo Sadler said she was appreciative of the work, which would help vulnerable young people in the community.

“We really appreciate this hands-on support from Lendlease, as every effort to improve the quality of accommodation for the young people in our community who need it most, makes a huge difference,” she said.

Mission Australia’s Youth Accommodation and Support Service was established in 1991 to provide 24/7 crisis accommodation for homeless young people aged 15-18 years, and transitional housing for people aged 16-25 years.

In addition to offering stable accommodation, it provides young people with independent living skills such as financial planning, tenancy information, health and nutrition, emotional support and informal counselling and re-engagement with school or employment.
