The 2012 Penrhos College graduate celebrated her 18th birthday on January 26 this year and relished the opportunity to enrol to vote and participate in this year’s elections, seeing it as a duty.

But that’s not the thinking of many young Australians who make up the largest proportion of missing voters.

According to the Australian Electoral Commission, those aged 18-25 made up a third of the 1.26 million people missing from the electoral roll up until the day before enrolments closed on August 12.

More than 30,000 enrolments were processed in WA in the seven days before August 12, including an estimated 15,000 enrolments by 8pm on the day.
