The East Victoria Park resident will join Team Cranky in October to take part in the 2013 Sunsuper Ride to Conquer Cancer.

The ride provides funds to the WA Institute for Medical Research where cancer research takes place.

He has lost four close relatives to cancer and said he wanted to do his bit to help raise money and awareness to help other families avoid the pain and suffering it brings.

‘I have had an uncle and a grandfather die of mesothelioma from asbestos exposure, and two other uncles who died from bowel cancer and multiple myeloma,’ he said.

In training for the 200km journey, Mr Frehner rides to work every day, with two weekly riding sessions of more than 50km each.

‘Closer to the time I will be ramping up the training to at least 70km,’ he said.

Team Cranky has a fundraising target of about $23,000 and Mr Frehner is working hard to raise his share, with a movie night due on September 20.

Businesses wanting to offer support can ring Jason on 0405 104 563.
