Family heirloom has airport link

Staff ReporterSouthern Gazette

Avid family historian Matt McGregor is the great-great-great-great-grandson of Scott, who owned a big parcel of land in South Guildford where he bred fat stock and was the first settler in the Bunbury district in 1838.

Before success, Mr McGregor spent five years trying to find the plaque made in 1962 in Scott’s honour for the opening of the then-new Perth Airport terminal.

‘I knew that plaque was here through family stories and I wanted to track it down,’ he said.

Mr McGregor, of Exmouth, is also recorded as a descendant of Daniel McGregor, who settled in Bunbury with Scott, and as among the last living descendants of the Scottish Clan Gregor. His DNA is being used to identify other living clan members.
