A MAYORAL candidate’s campaign sign was set alight on the weekend.
Police are investigating after the sign belonging to Town of Victoria Park councillor Karen Vernon was set on fire on Saturday, September 28.
The sign was burnt and caused damage to the property owner’s fence.
Cr Vernon praised the quick-thinking actions of a family driving past the Victoria Park property about 10pm who stopped to put out the fire using water bottles.
“While I expected some people to have a bit of fun by drawing on my signs, this type of dangerous criminal behaviour is extremely concerning,” she said.
The incident was captured on CCTV.
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers.
