A GROUP of women are trying to engage the community to be physically and mentally healthy through free fitness sessions along the river.
‘For the Every Woman’ is a concept by Burswood resident Jordina Quain, Victoria Park resident Kelsey Atkinson and Como resident Darci Miller.
The trio, along with other women, meet at the Burswood Park Playground on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6.15am for a 6km walk, jog or run along the river.
Ms Quain said the three women held public health degrees and were interested in a holistic approach to health.
“We have about 10 to 15 participants who say they wouldn’t normally get out of bed so early to exercise if there wasn’t a group to meet,” she said.
“We want to open it up to the wider community, including women from a CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) background.
“We are about inclusivity so we welcome people living with a disability or have had an injury.”
“Some of the women are from the Victoria Park Soccer Club, who I play for.”
Ms Atkinson, who is from Albany, said it could be difficult to meet new people so she encouraged women to come down or message them on social media.
“We are also trying to mirror the values of Act Belong Commit and Parkrun,” she said.
