ANOTHER tunnel boring machine (TBM) working on the Forrestfield-Airport Link has been halted today.

TBM Sandy was stopped when it came within 40m of the stationary TBM Grace.

It was revealed last week that TBM Grace had been stopped on February 14 after encountering some “minor ground disturbance issues.”

According to the State Government, TBM Sandy has not experienced the same ground disturbances and it is considered best practice that the two TBMs should not be positioned next to each other during tunnelling.

It is expected that both TBMs will continue tunnelling in the coming weeks after investigations into the ground disturbances are complete.
