A CLOVERDALE fruit and veg shop has been fined $45,000 and ordered to pay $1800.30 in costs after is was found to have breached the Food Act.

Belmont Market, on Belmont Avenue, was visited by City of Belmont staff in December last year and February this year.

In the first visit, the market was found to have breached regulations on information required on food that is required to bear a label and what must be on a nutrition information panel.

On the second visit, inspectors found food was not stored in a way that it is protected from the likelihood of contamination.

It is not the first time Belmont Market has fallen foul of authorities, with the market fined $3000 in 2017 for breaches.
