Gazette goes great guns

Staff ReporterSouthern Gazette

This Christmas the Southern Gazette is offering a helping hand by donating part proceeds of this week’s Christmas charity feature to the worthy cause.

But not content just to donate, the Gazette sales team also spent two days volunteering for Foodbank helping to pack non-perishable food for the community.

Foodbank WA was launched in response to the high levels of food waste in the community.

Last year Foodbank WA rescued more than 2.75 million kilograms of good food. Much of this food would have otherwise been dumped into landfill.

The large scale of Foodbank WA’s operations allows it to collect, store and distribute this food in Perth and five regional Foodbank warehouses to more than 1200 welfare agencies, community organisations and schools.

Gazette staff also organised a canned food drive and many staff made significant personal contributions.

Foodbank WA communications manager David Warren said he was very pleased with the Gazette team’s effort.
