Bounded by Manning Road and Edgecombe, Wooltana and Clydesdale streets, the right-of-way name originally came to council last month with the name Gum Lane but was rejected by council in favour of the name Flannel.

It also endorsed that all properties of the right-of-way be invited to comment on the name.

The reason was that Gum was too generic and Flannel refers to a distinctive flower which grew in the area. After consultation, it was recommended council endorsed the name Gum.

Resident Robin Orton requested the right-of-way be named as it was hard to find and explain to people. He said he preferred Gum Lane and naming the lane Flannel would go against the Geographic Names Committee policy preference of names shorter than six letters.
