Hands get dirty for good cause

THE team from Bunnings Warehouse Belmont got their hands dirty last week as they prepped the City of Belmont RSL garden.

To celebrate the centenary of the Gallipoli landings, the team put the finishing touches on the upgraded War Memorial by adding some new plants and giving it some much needed colour.

The new memorial was re-dedicated at a ceremony on Sunday.

Upgrades included the installation of ramps for disabled access, additional flagpoles and panels for artwork and commemorative plaques.

The City of Belmont, in conjunction with the City of Belmont RSL Sub-branch, was successful in securing $50,000 from the Federal Government as part of the Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program towards the project which had a total budget of $280,000.

City of Belmont Mayor Phil Marks said it was fitting the memorial be upgraded to coincide with the centenary commemorations.
