Horse power reins in neighbourhood crime

Jaime Shurmer, Southern GazetteSouthern Gazette

The horses are members of the WA Police mounted section, and Constable Jason Burnham said residents were encouraged to approach to say hello.

‘We were in Belmont and Rivervale on Wednesday and it went down really well with the public as we were going past the bus station, car parks and residential areas,’ he said.

‘We stopped a number of people and issued a few warning for drinking. It’s a really good visual way of patrolling and burglaries often drop to near nothing.’
