Huge crowds turn out for Perth DFO opening

IT was pandemonium as hundreds of shoppers waited patiently from 7.30am to get a first-look of Perth’s new DFO this morning.

A welcome to country, speeches, ribbon cutting ceremony and gourmet breakfast were all part of the VIP celebrations before doors opened to the public at 10am.

Perth MLA John Carey, who officially raised a bouquet of flowers to open the shopping outlet, said Perth was a City on the move with the launches of Yagan Square, changes to liquor laws and new projects including the WA Museum, Metronet all set to transform the City.

“I am excited about the opening today of this major development,” he said.

“It doesn’t just mean more jobs for the local economy, it just doesn’t mean the economy is going in the right direction, but this development adds to the tourism aspect of Perth and that is absolutely critical.

“We need to do more of this and we need to keep pushing this.”

He also urged people to continue to support the DFO saying there was a tendency to support places when they opened and then move on.

“If we want these kind of ventures to work in Perth, don’t just turn up once, keep coming back and tell your friends,” he said.

“If we want to champion change in Perth then we all have a responsibility to support these new ventures.”

International retailers including Tommy Hilfiger, Coach and Calvin Klein are joined by well-known national brands including Mimco, Decjuba and MJ Bale at DFO Perth.

Polo Ralph Lauren, Diesel, True Alliance and Stafford Ellinson also opened their first stores in Perth.

The direct factory outlet has more than 100 specialty retailers at its home on Dunreath Drive near Perth Airport.

The centre has a playground connected to its dining precinct.
