Huge queues for Costco’s Perth opening

Staff WriterSouthern Gazette

SHOPPERS have queued round the building as Costco Perth opened its doors almost half an hour early today.

The opening had been scheduled for 8am, but the giant warehouse threw the doors open just after 7.30am to alleviate the queue that had snaked round the building.

A Costco spokesperson said the queue went around the building already at 6am this morning.

Although the grand ribbon-cutting ceremony was shelved over coronavirus fears, there was no shortage of shoppers keen to get their hands on toilet paper and hand sanitiser as the American bulk buy giant finally opened.

The queue split into two, with one dedicated for toilet roll purchase.

Costco Perth has applied a limit of one pack of toilet paper per member.

Harrisdale resident Hilton Ramirez said he braved the crowd to provide for his big family.

“I was here at a quarter to 6am and I was at the back of the building already,” he said.

“Having a family of eight altogether, I had to go hunting for the family.”

Long-time Costco customer and Forrestfield resident David said he was planning to do his shopping at the new store every two weeks.

“I love Costco, I would’ve gone to the Costco opening during this coronavirus fears or not,” he said.

“I used to shop at Costco in the eastern states.”
