HydroBike hire set to launch at South Perth foreshore

EXERCISING this summer may be a little cooler than you think with HydroBike hire to be launched at South Perth’s foreshore.

Skyline Hydrobikes’ owner Greg Galvin came up with the idea to bring the water bikes to South Perth about four years ago, after grown up in the area and having spent a lot of time as a child at the Swan River.

“We have approval for the hire of 10 HydroBikes at the moment and hope to get a larger fleet after our first year trial” Mr Galvin said.

“The bike, which has been tested to perform in saltwater conditions, features steel internals, precision gears and a premier drive chain,” he said.

“It is very stable and can travel at about 8km per hour.”

Mr Galvin said he had one final hurdle to finalise but was hopeful the business would be operational by January 1.

Catering to anyone from ages eight to 80, Skyline will initially offer 30 minute bike hire for rides anywhere inside the ferry channel boundary between the Mends Street and Coode Street jetties.

Mr Gavin then hopes to launch a series of guided tours including a special seniors ride, bridges ride, old brewery ride and hydro glow city lights tour, but it is not known as to when these will be available as yet.

Pending the success of its South Perth trial, Skyline expects to also launch in Mandurah, in late 2018.
