Intergenerational Playgroup in Redcliffe appeals for support

Rick LeeSouthern Gazette

The Playgroup WA-affiliated group meets at Brightwater Redcliffe every second Monday, but numbers have dropped off.

Kylie Chandran and her daughter Syreeta (15 months) began attending about a year ago and love seeing the residents’ faces light up when they arrive.

“Seeing the kids and elderly people together is a beautiful exchange of human communication,” Mrs Chandran said.

Brightwater Redcliffe care group activities co-ordinator Leanne Ruggiero said she was concerned the group would have to close if numbers did not increase.

“I think the problem is that people don’t realise the playgroup is available, so we really want to get the message out there,” Ms Ruggiero said.

“We are here and would love for parents, grandparents and carers to bring their children along to our playgroup.

“It’s a lot of fun for our residents and the children and their families.”

Mrs Chandran said she loved supporting a good cause and the children brought a lot of joy to the Brightwater residents.

“It’s uplifting for me as a parent.

“It’s a nice opportunity to spend time together as a community,” she said.

The playgroup is for children from newborn to pre-primary and costs $30 to register.
