THE City of South Perth has welcomed the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Hayman Road and Thelma Street in Como as part of the 2015-2016 National Black Spot program.

The City of South Perth identified the need for traffic control measures at the intersection in 2010 as part of a traffic management study.

The project will be fully funded by a Federal government grant of $530,000 through the program.

South Perth Mayor Sue Doherty said the construction of the roundabout would improve the safety of Hayman Road for users.

“Hayman Road is one of the busiest roads within the City, linking Curtin University to the main arterial road of Canning Highway and sees approximately 15,000 vehicles travel along it daily,” she said.

“The City has received many reports of near misses and right-angled crashes for this intersection and the funding from the National Black Spot Program is vital to make this intersection safe for our community.”

The City has released design plans for the project. Comments on the plan are open until September 15.
