Kewdale resident’s 1957 snap wins City of Belmont’s Local History Photographic Competition

THE heritage of the City of Belmont was recognised as the council announced the winner of its Local History Photographic Competition.

Kewdale resident Sonja Lloyd received a $500 cash prize for her 1957 photograph of three children and a dog playing in Milne Avenue, which was near Sydenham Street and Epsom Avenue, she was also commended for her of Eddie Spencer, Nell Sutton and former Mayor Peter Passeri cutting Belmont’s Centenary (1899 to 1999) anniversary cake

There were 189 photographs from 21 entrants into the competition and the judging panel included Mayor Phil Marks, History Council of Western Australia president Jenny Gregory and City of Belmont freeman Peg Parkin.

Kevin Bettridge was commended for his photograph of himself and his mother Irene, at his home in Gladstone Road, Rivervale.
