Labor will invest in light rail: Bowen

SHADOW Treasurer Chris Bowen stopped in at a Lathlain cafe last week to discuss how a Labor government would impact Swan and the surrounding electorates.

Recently there have been reports that the Federal Government would feature the WA Government’s MAX light rail project in its Infrastructure Australia’s 15-year plan, due out next year.

Mr Bowen said a Labor government would invest in public transport for WA. His comments come after WA Labor leader Mark McGowan said in September that if elected, he would build the multibillion-dollar Metronet rail system that connects Thornlie to the Mandurah line.

“Taking a selfie on a train is not funding,” he said, speaking of Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull who regularly tweets selfie pictures on trains.

“You need to actually put money into it too.”

Mr Bowen also said an election may be called early next year after the redistribution of electorate boundaries was finalised.
