About 20 bird nesting boxes were placed in trees at Rayment and Tom Wright parks on March 21 after community workshops were held in November to create the habitats.
The boxes were made at the Manning Men’s Shed with help from a $2000 grant from the Town of Victoria Park.
Victoria Park resident Jim Mellor said the concept came out of the passion of residents after the loss of habitat when about 100 trees were removed at Lathlain Park to make way for the West Coast Eagles.

“It was an opportunity to channel the passion felt in the community and to ensure the birds had a place in the trees,” he said.
“There were about 50 to 60 people who attended the workshops and Town of Victoria Park councillor Keith Hayes attended and supported the project.”
Mr Mellor said the placement of the boxes was the start of a trial that he hoped to expand in the future.
“The boxes will be for a variety of parrots and other native species; each box has a different opening size,” he said.
“There will be ongoing community participation to keep an eye on the boxes to make sure they haven’t been taken over by bees or deteriorated.
“The boxes will help to protect the birds and hopefully keep them relatively safe,” he said.
