Man (54) on weapons and drugs charges after Ascot incident

A WANNEROO man has been charged with impersonating a police officer after an incident in Ascot in the early hours of Friday morning (August 24).

Police were called to a serviced apartment complex on Great Eastern Highway at 12.30am to investigate a report of a person carrying a firearm.

A 54-year-old man at the apartment allegedly told staff there that he was a police officer.

Cannington Detectives searched the man’s room and vehicle, finding an unlicensed firearm, drug paraphernalia and a small amount of methamphetamine.

He was charged with impersonating a public office, possession of a controlled weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a prohibited drug.

He will appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on September 21.

A 49-year-old woman from Forrestdale who was with the man will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date on drug-related offences.
