MONSTERS, myths and magic are artist Bonnie Boogaard’s favourite inspiration for her needle felt creations.
Boogaard studied a Bachelor of Arts at Curtin University in 2010 where she majored in textiles.
A few years later she discovered the technique used in her Needle Felt Workshops, which she taught herself.

READ NOW“I found my interest in children’s book characters an inspiration for the felt monsters I create,” she said.
“As an artist I work primarily in embroidery but I find felt to be an easy medium for everyone to use and with the techniques I teach it can be learned by anyone.
“I also find felt fantastic because in a three hour class my students are able to walk out with a finished sculpture of there own.”
Boogaard’s next workshop will be held on August 7, at 6pm, in the Manning Library, as part of the City of South Perth’s Evolve development program.
The Evolve program runs throughout August, alongside the City’s annual Emerging Artist Award.
Other courses will include screen printing, weaving, brush lettering and papier mache.
