Men charged after alleged police chase through Perth suburbs

A POLICE chase through several Perth suburbs involving a stolen BMW, the police helicopter and multiple police cars ended in arrest for two men overnight.

Police officers approached a BMW that was at the intersection of Francisco Street and Orrong Road in Rivervale last night at 8.20pm.

The stolen car allegedly drove off through a red light.

The officers pursued the car but aborted the chase shortly after it began.

Polcie attempted to stop the car for a second time, but that chase was aborted once the police helicopter was activated.

While the helicopter crew tracked the car through several suburbs, additional police cars were called in and a tyre deflation device was set up on Alexander Drive in Ballajura.

The now-disabled car was abandoned in the car park of a fast food restaurant on the corner of Alexander Drive and Capital Road, Malaga.

The two occupants of the car ran into the restaurant before being arrested.

A 20-year-old man has been charged with motor vehicle theft and reckless driving, reckless driving to escape pursuit, failure to stop and no authority to drive.

He was refused bail and will appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today.

A 25-year-old man was charged with theft of a motor vehicle. He will appear in Perth Magistrates Court on January 5.
