The review includes a proposal to amalgamate local councils, which according to a resident survey done by the Town, is not a popular option with local ratepayers.
Victoria Park Mayor Trevor Vaughan said the Town’s submission would echo the views of the majority of its residents, which is ‘to leave the Town of Victoria Park as is’.
‘The majority of respondents prefer the Town of Victoria Park remain whole and not merge with other local governments,’ Mr Vaughan said.
‘As part of the survey, an overview of the possible amalgamation scenarios outlined in the review was explained and an additional scenario of amalgamating with the City of South Perth was included.
‘Adding an option for amalgamating with the City of South Perth made sense as we are located side-by-side along the river; we share some facilities already and have more of a relationship with South Perth than any other town suggested as an amalgamation option.
‘If the Town is forced to amalgamate by the State Government, then merging with City of South Perth is the preferred option.’
