As secretary of the Imams Council WA, based in Thornlie, imam Burhaan Mehtar said the Muslim Theological Council of WA was shocked and dismayed to hear of the incident.
The release urged imams across the nation to condemn the attack.
‘We request the wider Australian society not to judge the religion or Australian Muslims, or act in any negative way, due to the barbaric, unacceptable crime carried out by others in the name of Islam,’ he said. ‘To the family of the dead soldier, we express our sincere condolences.’
Imam Burhaan said that Friday messages given by imams across WA were dedicated to the topic and he had not heard of any harassment against Muslims here.
