Staff ReporterSouthern Gazette

The residents, who do not wish to be named, said they had reported their neighbour, who lives in a Department of Housing property, to the department dozens of times but the problems remained unchanged.

Their complaints have included the neighbours piling up bags of rubbish in the backyard, causing a plague of mice and ants, as well as a putrid smell in the street, disruptive behaviour and overcrowding, with up to 25 people living in the house at one time.

Steve Parry, the general manager of service delivery from the Department of Housing, said the department acknowledged there had been some issues with the tenancy and was engaging with the tenant and support agencies to improve property standards.
