Executive general manager Fiona Lander said while consultations were progressing well, the complexity of the project, including how the airspace for the proposed three-runway system would be operated by air traffic controller Airservices Australia, resulted in airlines requesting additional information.
Ms Lander said substantial community consultation and approvals would be required for a third runway, which would take four to five years to construct.
‘It is also important to keep in mind that Perth is part of a broader network of aviation services in Australia, and airlines have to take into account a wide range of operational, technical and cost considerations when deciding whether or not to agree with Perth Airport investment proposals,’ she said. ‘As such, they need time to carefully consider the proposal and make a decision about the timing of construction.’
