WITH New Year’s resolutions on the horizon, one expert is warning not to fall victim to fad diets, unused gym memberships and unrealistic goals.
Holistic health coach, tantric practitioner, model and writer Elise Carr has the tips to implement in 2016 that can help you become the best version of you.
The brunette beauty is the face behind popular blog Stella Muse and has dedicated her journey to helping people become their brightest, most fulfilled selves.
She told the Southern Gazette all it took to be your best self was the healthy balance of three internal relationships: soul, spirit and tribe.
“If you are after a new you in 2016, there is no greater way than starting from within and honouring that commitment to yourself everyday in the best way you can,” Ms Carr says.
“Investing in these three relationships at New Year and everyday has the power to change your life.
“Pay attention to which relationship you need to invest in most right now and ensure each of these is nourished and healthy so you can flourish.”
Investing in your soul is investing in yourself and Ms Carr preaches that saying no for the benefit of your well-being should not be seen as negative.
“You relationship with self is the longest and most important relationship of your entire life,” Ms Carr says.
“You may have been conditioned to believe serving yourself first is selfish, at the dinner table it may be, but not when it comes to serving your soul.”
According to Ms Carr, nourishing your soul can be as simple as taking time out for yourself to relax.
“Know when to take a rest, take yourself out on a date, read a book or take a dance class you’re interested in,” she says.
“Ask yourself ‘what makes me come alive, when do I feel most inspired?’, then take action from there.”
Whether it is interacting with religion, the universe or any divine intervention, connecting with spirit is the second step to a well-rounded being.
“Connecting with spirit allows you to be a channel, clear and free from the noise of everything else around you,” Ms Carr says.
“This practice is your purification and the daily cleansing of your being to allow inspiration to flow through you.”
Exploring the relationship with spirit could start on the yoga mat, in prayer, channelling in a journal or going to a sacred place like the beach for meditation.
Finally, the connection to loved ones and being of service to them in small or grand ways is an investment in self.
“It’s essential for your happiness, wellbeing and soul evolution, it’s the power of giving and receiving,” Ms Carr says.
“It’s an exchange of loving kindness and compassion and can be achieved by preparing and sharing a meal, a conversation, making love, a hug, listening and infinite other ways.”
