In 2011, 32 notices were issued and while only seven were issued in 2012, six have already been issued this year.
‘The obstruction of the footpath or walkways can pose a problem for people who have difficulty with access and movement, especially thorny or cactus-like plants for example bougainvillea,’ City of South Perth Mayor Sue Doherty said.
Mrs Doherty said many residents put considerable effort into maintaining attractive gardens and trees at the front of their properties but if residents do not ensure their vegetation is clear of footpaths then the City may have to complete the work and recover the cost, which is estimated at being about $200.
