Paid parking a sore point

Staff ReporterSouthern Gazette

The controversial installation of meters along Albany Highway and some side streets has raised the ire of some residents, business operators, visitors and councillors, with the Town’s parking management committee recommending a review of several parameters.

These included a review of the 15-minute discount parking period, the two-hour parking restriction and if paid parking should continue until midnight.

In an effort to provide a mix of long and short-term occupancy, Cr John Bissett unsuccessfully recommended some parking fees be reduced, overall hours of paid parking be reduced and the free parking time limit doubled, immediately. It was voted down 2-7.
