Penrhos Adventurers fund raise from a great height

Bronwyn DonovanSouthern Gazette

PENRHOS student Abigail (Abby) Fitzgerald stood by as a team of 12 adventurers abseiled 160m off the QV1 building in Perth in honour of her.

The eight-year-old was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2013 and is due to have further scans before she may possibly be given the all clear.

Penrhos College head girl Stella McLaughlin and former Penrhos sport captain Sharni Reidy-Crofts were among the team of The Adventurers, a charity that funds research for child brain cancer, who raised about $19,000 toward the cause.

Ms Reidy-Crofts said she had a personal connection with Abby that spurred her on through the challenge.

“Through a program run by UWA, I have worked with Abby to her stay on track with school development and not fall behind,” she said.

“While we were doing the abseil Abby was watching and cheering us on, which was pretty incredible and special to me.”The girls alone raised $2700 of the total collected.
