People friendly facelift planned

Staff ReporterSouthern Gazette

The Town of Victoria Park endorsed a concept plan at its meeting last week.

The plan provided detailed design for new lighting, ‘street furniture’, landscaping and irrigation, with construction beginning in coming months.

At the meeting Mayor Trevor Vaughan praised acting chief executive Anthony Vuleta for his work on the plan after council directed him to compile a report on an upgrade for the area last May.

‘With the decision by the West Coast Eagles to relocate their administrative and training headquarters to Lathlain Park, upgrading the Lathlain Place streetscape has become even more important,’ Cr Vaughan said.

‘As one of seven projects to revitalise the precinct, the most exciting aspect about the upgrade is that it envisions a more people-friendly street.

‘Other projects involve a new facility for the Lathlain-Carlisle Playgroup and the Carlisle-Victoria Park Toy Library.

‘It will accommodate child and adolescent community health services, provided by the Department of Health.

‘The local Scout and Guides groups will also benefit with their premises being located in Lathlain Place.

‘The area will be completely transformed into an attractive, user-friendly and vibrant community hub, bringing the area of Lathlain into the spotlight and revitalising what has been under-used in the past.’
