Perth Airport to temporarily close main runway for upgrades

Sophie MooreSouthern Gazette

PERTH Airport is temporarily closing its main runway for infrastructure upgrades.

From Mondays to Saturdays until Saturday March 25 the main 3444m north-to-south runway, known as runway 03/21, will shut from 8am to 5pm.

During this period the cross runway, shorter at 2163m, will be used for arriving and departing flights.

Residents in the Southern Gazette area may notice changes to aircraft movements, however the total number of flights arriving and departing the airport will not changed, nor will there be changes to flight paths.

Perth Airport has invested $36 million to upgrade infrastructure to make the airport a category III aerodrome, improving runway visibility during adverse weather, including fog.

Regular maintenance works on both runways will continue throughout the year.
