MORE than 500 local primary and secondary school students helped to plant 16,000 native trees and shrubs in the Perth Airport estate last week.
External affairs general manger Fiona Lander said the students were participating in the airport’s Living Stream Project.
“Perth Airport is strongly committed to environmental management and sustainability,” Ms Lander said.
“We undertake a number of activities throughout the year to protect local water and soil resources and reduce the impact of airport activities on the environment.
“Tree planting is an important aspect of our ongoing environmental strategy and it is fantastic to have the continued support and involvement of 13 local primary and five secondary schools.”
The students also learned about threatened native animals and control of feral predators through the Department of Parks and Wildlife’s Nearer to Nature Program.
