The long-awaited venue, scheduled to open in Burswood for the start of the 2018 AFL season, will hold 60,000 people.

Construction is now more than 30 per cent complete and the ground will accommodate AFL, rugby, cricket, soccer, and major entertainment events and shows.

Work has begun on the Swan River pedestrian bridge that will link Perth Stadium with East Perth.

The significance of the area to the traditional owners of the land, the Whadjuk people, was recognised with a symbolic pre-construction smoking ceremony at the East Perth end of the walkway.
