Mayor Sue Doherty said the biggest issues are at McDougall Park and Sir James Mitchell Park, even though signs to discourage people feeding the birds and ducks have been erected in Sir James Mitchell Park.

The City is reminding residents and visitors to the parks not to feed the birds and ducks.

‘Dead birds are often found in, near and close to water bodies. They can become ill after eating too much artificial food such as bread and seeds,’ Mayor Doherty said.

‘Avian botulism, which occurs naturally, can also cause the death of birds. Avian botulism increases when there is an abundance of decomposing matter including bread, which alters the nutrient levels in the water.’
