POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a carjacking in Perth on New Year’s Day.

A 54-year-old driver was stationary at the intersection of Kooyong Road and Great Eastern Highway in Rivervale when thieves hauled him out of the car.

The car was seen driving erratically on Kwinana Freeway near Safety Bay soon afterwards.

A spokesman for WA Police said officers were investigating a robbery that took place in Rivervale about 1.50pm on Wednesday.

He said the driver was “coarsely removed from the vehicle causing minor injuries and the vehicle was stolen”.

“The stolen vehicle is a gold 2004 Honda Accord sedan, registration 1EZX128 which was sighted driving erratically south on Kwinana Freeway near Safety Bay soon after,” he added.

Police are requesting any dash cam footage from either the Rivervale or Safety Bay location to be uploaded to the police evidence link.
