A State Alert message was sent to more than 250,000 recipients and WA Police social media accounts were used to seek assistance from the public to locate the vehicle.

About 3:40pm a member of the public who had seen the appeal on social media located the vehicle parked at unit complex on Canning Highway, Victoria Park.

The boy was located inside the vehicle and returned to his family.

After an extensive investigation by Kensington Detectives, a 32-year-old man from Serpentine has been charged with stealing a motor vehicle and acts or omissions likely to endanger life, health or safety of a person.
