Police charge man over theft of car containing three-year-old boy

POLICE have charged a man over an incident late last year in which a car containing a three-year-old boy was allegedly stolen.

At about 1.45pm on Friday December 2, a Subaru Impreza was taken from the driveway of a residence in Westminster Street in East Victoria Park.

Dozens of police units, including Police Air Wing, were tasked to search for the boy and the stolen vehicle.

A State Alert message was sent to more than 250,000 recipients and WA Police social media accounts were used to seek assistance from the public to locate the vehicle.

About 3:40pm a member of the public who had seen the appeal on social media located the vehicle parked at unit complex on Canning Highway, Victoria Park.

The boy was located inside the vehicle and returned to his family.

After an extensive investigation by Kensington Detectives, a 32-year-old man from Serpentine has been charged with stealing a motor vehicle and acts or omissions likely to endanger life, health or safety of a person.
