POLICE are investigating two supermarket robberies overnight committed by a trio of armed men wearing balaclavas.

The three men, wearing balaclavas and dark clothing, broke into the Waterford Plaza shopping centre last night at 11.15pm and forced the door of the Coles supermarket open.

A night shift worked confronted the men, but he was threatened with a weapon.

The offenders ransacked the tills before running away from the shopping centre.

They ransacked the tills at the Woolworths supermarket, stealing cash and cigarettes.

Police officers from the Cannington and Fremantle districts raced to other potential shopping centres nearby to prevent further robberies.

Regional Investigations Unit detectives, canine and forensics officers are investigating CCTV and forensic evidence at both crime scenes.

Anyone with information about either of the crimes should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a confidential report online.
