A VICTORIA Park marching group has given its award as Pride Parade 2018’s Best Marching Group to their local council this morning.

Pride WA named Vic Park Pride as the Best Marching Group of Perth Pride Parade 2018, held from Northbridge to Yagan Square last month.

Vic Park Pride member Manuao TeAotonga said the award was given to the Town of Victoria Park for the support given to their community group.

“We were representing the community of the town of Victoria Park so it only seems fitting that we gift the award to the town,” he said.

Mr TeAotonga said more than 50 members marched in the group, exceeding the set maximum.

“We provided them with costumes and props and had a choreographed marching routine,” he said.

“We marched with enthusiasm and pride, with four councillors joining us.”

Mayor Trevor Vaughan said the town supported the gay community last year and did a month of engagement with the community on how to support them this year.

“We’re an inclusive and equitable community and town,” he said.
