Dr Nowak, a researcher at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, is a part of the charitable Team Purple Hearts.
Made up of a group of women, the team will take part in the Walkers in the Weekend to End Women’s Cancer in April.
Over two days, teams will complete a 60km walk through the streets of Perth.

“We think women who go through treatment for cancer are incredibly courageous,” Dr Nowak said.
Dr Nowak was inspired to make change after her friend died from breast cancer at age 42, leaving her husband and two young children behind.
Last year, Team Purple Hearts raised about $85,000 for women’s cancer research at the Harry Perkins Institute through the fundraiser Purple Hearts Ball.
“As much as it’s incredibly important to support family and friends with cancer as best we can, the only way to conquer cancer is through medical research,” Dr Nowak said.
The team will repeat the highly successful fundraising ball at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on March 12.
“All members of Team Purple Hearts are passionate about supporting vital medical research to stop these devastating diseases in their tracks,” Dr Nowak said.
