Questions over proposed pole

The structure is proposed to be erected at the Coode Street end of the park and is required by Telstra to facilitate the NextG mobile telephone network.

In a report prepared by Planning Solutions on behalf of Service Stream Mobile Communications for its client, Telstra Corporation, it said the pole structure and would be of a green finish, which would match the light pole being replaced, and is considered to be the most ‘unobtrusive option’ for the proposed infrastructure.

South Perth residents have prepared a list of considerations against the proposal, which include saying the park is a ‘community sensitive location’. They said a telecommunications facility would not contribute to foreshore amenities.

They also said a 12-metre high tower would be visually obtrusive.

City of South Perth Mayor Sue Doherty said it was likely the proposal would come to the council in December.
