Belmont Police officer in charge, Senior Sergeant Daniel Greive said the signs were disturbing and inflammatory.

“All the signs we’ve recovered have been subject to forensic examination but at this stage we don’t know who is responsible,” he said.

“The WA State Security Investigations Group, which investigates matters involving right wing or extremist behaviour, are also on the case.

“If anyone knows who is responsible we’d like them to come forward because it is creating community unrest.

“Potentially people have CCTV footage of these incidents and can assist police in catching the offender.”

Possessing material for dissemination with intent to incite racial harassment is an offence under the Criminal Code and can be punishable by up to 14 years imprisonment.
