Rally cry as Battle for Burswood starts

About 1000 red-clad, placard-waving people clearly showed their anger at the State Government’s perceived arrogance at cherry picking sections of both councils for an expanded City of Perth as part of proposed boundary changes under metropolitan local government reform.

Victoria Park Mayor Trevor Vaughan said the show of public solidarity was tangible.

‘Yesterday’s Battle for Burswood Rally was a great success,’ Cr Vaughan said.

‘We have an amazing community who turned up to show their support for keeping the whole of Burswood Peninsula in the Town.

‘The Premier will need to listen. Hopefully we can stop this blatant land grab.’

The Town and the City have formed a joint taskforce, with membership from both councils, to prepare a submission to the advisory board requesting that if amalgamated, the Victoria Park and South Perth communities retain the whole of the Burswood Peninsula, including Crown Casino and the future Perth Stadium site.
